An important part and oftentimes the least favorite part of any business is marketing. This is as true if you have been in business 20 years or if you are just starting out. All businesses benefit from following an ongoing marketing plan. Very successful businesses have at least three different strategies in place and operating at all times.

Professional business cards are an extremely important part of marketing your business. This one time investment in creating your business cards will repay you ten fold at least. The information I will be sharing comes directly from my personal experience and the way I do my business. I will not be sharing anything other than what I have personally found to be effective.

I am excited to share some simple, yet highly effective ways of maximizing your marketing efforts and time using a business card.

Having a professional business card can be a very important part of your overall marketing strategy and is a basic tool in getting started. A professional looking card can help you spread the word quickly and inexpensively about your company.

Let’s begin by discussing some of the reasons it is so important to have a professional business card which you will be proud to hand to your prospects and clients.

Number one, a business card is your most basic marketing tool and creates the awareness in your own mind “you are now in business.” It is also your least expensive marketing tool and form of advertising your business. Your card is a key component in helping people you meet to remember who you are and what service or product you offer. It presents you and your company in a very professional manner which creates an impression of who you are.

When you hand someone your card, you are giving them a sample of your business, a sneak preview of coming attractions; your card basically sets the tone for what they can expect if they decide to do business with you. You want to establish respect for you and your company when they first receive your card.

Part 2 coming tomorrow…

Cheers,
Judi

In the December newsletter, I have created a theme and a focus for this coming year which is “Business is Great in 2008!”  The goal is to educate and support our members in generating MORE “outside referrals” in their chapters.  I am seeing how well we all support each others businesses.  It is time to kick it up a notch and share our team members businesses with every one we see and talk to.

To generate these outside referrals, Team Women will be offering:

1.  Educational teleclasses
2.  Fun contests
3.  Tools and resources

“People who are cocky and arrogant say, ‘I know that’ and move along. People who are confident and positive ask themselves,’ How good am I at that?’ and seek to improve.”

~Jeffery Gitomer

In 2008, let’s all focus on improving the number of outside referrals we pass to our team members!

Keep Pushing Play,

Judi

When you join a Team Women Chapter you are making a commitment to both your own business and to the other members. We get a lot of questions regarding the attendance policy and the one I hear the most often is “Is your attendance policy really strict?” I always quickly answer yes! As business women with integrity, it is very important to honor our commitments.

I received a question today and gave a lot of thought to my answer. I have removed all information regarding the member and the chapter and want to post my answer here for you.

Question: I’m curious - I left a message and let my chapter president know I had a conflict in my schedule and was unable to attend my Team Women Meeting ths next day. Why is that unexcused?

Answer: Thanks for your question. The reason your absence was un-excused is because “conflicts” are not an excused absence. When I am talking to a new or potential member I explain to them they need to plan to be at every meeting and go home and put the meeting dates “in ink” in their calendars. The only excused absences are:

Illness, personal or child
Out of town for vacation or business
Jury Duty

Conflicts are typically personal appointments (dentist, customer, prospect etc) and to be scheduled around your Team Women meetings, not in conflict with our meetings. As business owners and entrepreneurs we have the ability to set our own schedule and out of respect to our Team Women Chapter need to be scheduled at other times.

For example, if we have an appointment with a customer already set and another customer calls and wants the same time; we tell them we are already scheduled and offer a different time for them. The same respect and courtesy is expected by chapter members; the recognition that the meeting is important and not be scheduled over.

As a member I am not as likely to give referrals to a chapter member who is not committed to attending the meeting. We are in the process of ensuring the attendance policy is strictly adhered to in every chapter. I was the one who told your president your absence was not excused. She was following my directions.

The strength of a chapter is determined by the commitment of each of the members to being there and contributing. Hopefully this answers your questions and we look forward to your business growing due to your membership with Team Women!”
